ASTM A691 Pipe is a type of steel pipes that are of 16 inches diameter or above that measure. There are lots of different grades under this standard. These are all electric fusion welded pipes. They have added filler metal in their make and are fabricated from pressure vessel quality plates. Therefore the pipes can be used in in high pressure applications. The grades are named CM-65, 1CR, CMS-75 and so on. The A691 Cl22 Pipes for example belong to the Cl22 grade which is a 1 ¼ CR alloy. The grade 91 of these pipes contains 9% chromium and 1% molybdenum in the composition and is called the A691 Gr91 EFW Steel Pipe. The other grades have their own specifications as well.  The A691 5cr EFW Pipe contains 5% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum in the composition.

These pipes could be used in different applications. The specifications of each grade make the grades applicable for different use cases. Some of these are good for high temperature applications; some are good for high pressure applications. Some of these are used in highly corrosive environments because of their corrosion resistance nature. Some grades are strengthened through quenching and tempering. A few grades could be produced by the mixture of these methods as well. The A691 Steel Pipe is usually stronger and exhibits different levels of corrosion resistance due to the difference in composition.
